SCREEDS - 4) REALIZING A BOTTOM LAYER SUITABLE TO RECEIVE RESIN FLOORINGS

4.1-Moisture

Residual moisture-4.1.1 - It is the residual moisture content of the cast after a screed or a concrete slab has set.

It should be measured by CALCIUM CARBIDE method at the corners of the building where there is more accumulation of moisture (eg at the corners): maximum 3%.

In case of higher moisture levels apply SOLID.

4.1.2- Temporary rising damp - It is water rising to the surface during periods of rain and which then disappears.It most frequently occurs either in reclaimed lands or at the foot of the hills in areas with no natural drainage gravel. It is a common characteristic of concrete industrial floorings.

Apply SOLID.

4.1.3 Counterthrust moisture - I Moisture caused by construction errors made at the level of buildings basements. It is a serious problem and typically found in lowland areas.

Apply PRIMER-Q and Q-RASANTE.

 

4.2-Cracks- there are cracks in almost every building site.

 

Follow the recommendations and proceed as specified in paragraph 3.3.

 

4.3-Joints- There are joints especially on substrates made of industrial concrete, more rarely on screeds.

The possible manufacturing processes are the following:

  • to fill with resin during the substrate smoothing phase and then to cut at the end of work and seal (industrial coatings);
  • to eliminate the joints by mending (see paragraph 3.3) if the floor coating is rigid
  • (like NATURAL), or if the customer asks to make the joints totally disappear under the resin;
  • remove only a part of the mended joints and leave the others exposed.

4.4 - APPLYING FILM RESINS

4.4.a- Applying products on substrates with either residual moisture up to 6% or affected by temporary rising damp.

NORPHEN SW Solid-NORPHEN SW smalto - Q Smalto - Q Smalto LC-do not require any pre-treatment and can be applied directly on the substrate (appropriately prepared).

For all other products- apply SOLID as a base coat, with or without broadcasting the quartz supplied depending on the scheduled type of finish (smooth or non-skid finish).

4.4.b- Applying products on substrates with either more than 6% residual moisture or counterthrust moisture.

Apply Q-PRIMER and Q-RASANTE with or without broadcsting quartz, depending on the sheduled type of finish (smooth or non-skid finish).

 

4.5 APPLYING SELF LEVELING RESINS

This paragraph refers to medium thickness coatings (2 mm), which are manufactured by casting and adjusted with either a rake or a notched trowel in one single coat after the substrate.

4.5.1 Applying products on substrates with either residual moisture up to 6% or affected by temporary rising damp.

After preparing the substrate by polishing it, apply SOLID as a base coat by broadcasting the quartz supplied.

4.5.2-Applying products on substrates with either more than 6% residual moisture or counterthrust moisture.

After preparing the substrate by either polishing or blasting apply Q-PRIMER and Q-RASANTE with a slight boradcast of quartz sand. In this case it is recommended to avoid broadcasting to excess quartz in order to decrease the formation of air bubbles on the bottom.

 

4.6- APPLYING MULTY-LAYER RESIN COATINGS

This paragraph refers to medium-high thickness (2 \ 5 mm) coatings, which are manufactured by casting and broadcast to excess with natural or colored quartz sand.

4.6.1 Applying products on substrates with either more than 6% residual moisture or counterthrust moisture.

After preparing the substrate by polishing it, apply SOLID as a base coat by broadcasting the quartz supplied.

4.6.2-Applying products on substrates with either more than 6% residual moisture or counterthrust moisture.

After preparing the substrate by either polishing or blasting apply Q-PRIMER and Q-RASANTE with a slight boradcast of quartz sand. In this case it is recommended to avoid broadcasting to excess quartz in order to decrease the formation of air bubbles on the bottom.
