Epoxy Impregnation Compound
for FRP Systems


CARBO BASE is a two component product consisting of:

  • component A: a mixture of liquid epoxy prepolymers and additives;
  • component B: copolymerization amine.

Once fully cured, the material becomes yellowish and clear and exhibits excellent flexibility, resistance to compression and tensile strength.

Usage field

CARBO BASE is used to saturate by impregnation glass or carbon fibers used in both "VETROFIL" and "CARBOFIL" Fibreglass Reinforced Plastic (FRP) systems.

The product pot life is designed to work without problems from Spring trough Autumn. A Special version for low temperature is available upon request.

Surface Preparation:

  • the substrate must be carefully checked to ensure it is a suitable and structurally sound base and, depending on the existing surface conditions, the type of preparation to be done must be chosen.

Specific Preparation:

  • apply a coat of CARBO FONDO to the surface to be treated;
  • then apply a coat of CARBO STUCCO if the surface requires a levelling skim coat;
  • proceed with the laying of either CARBOFILL or VETROFIL and impregnate until saturation with CARBO BASE.

Product Preparation:

  • poor CARBO BASE component B into component A and stir for approx. 1÷2 minutes with a helical blade mixer;
  • the blade must be clean and of adequate size so as to be completely and thoroughly immersed in the liquid;
  • stir up slowly so as not to incorporate air: the mixture immediately after the addition of the component B becomes opalescent and then it turns transparent again;
  • stir again for a few seconds and apply as soon as possible.
  • The amount of product (A+B) to be prepared must be calibrated each time according to room temperature, in order to be able to use it completely before pot life expires.
  • In any case, the amount of component A and component B shall be weighed with a scale.

Coverage: 1.1÷1.2 kg/m2 to impregnate a 330 g/m2 carbon fibre ribbon.

Warning and informations
  • In cold weather (8÷16°C) the product exhibits a higher viscosity and the elimination of air bubbles trapped inside during mixing occurs slowly.
  • In hot weather 26÷30°C) the reaction speed increases and the system can reach the gel phase before releasing the air bubbles.
  • Any porosity of the substrate may contain air that is released very slowly: it is advisable to apply a first coat of CARBO STUCCO sealer.
  • Apply further layers the following day, after a maximum of 48 hours.
  • Refer to the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) before use.

24 months in original packaging, in a dry area out of direct sunlight, between +5°C and +35°C .
