REDOX

Rust converter

Description

REDOX is a specially developed compound made up of  functionalized polymers, gallic acid (converter), modifying agents and additives. It was specifically designed to chemically react with rust, turning it into a dark coloured protective film that prevents further metal oxidation.

It contains no substance that may change colour when exposed to UV light; its action can therefore be checked by eye.

REDOX is much more effective than ordinary converters based on tannic acid.

Usage field

REDOX is used as a rust converter on iron surfaces:

  • iron manufacts before painting;
  • reinforcement iron bars before they are covered by restoring or protecting mortar.
Packaging

REDOX comes in 1 or 5 litre containers.

Application

Preparing the lying surface

  • If the problem is just a slight oxidation, apply REDOX directly onto the surface.
  • If, however, you are dealing with a thick layer of rust, sand it down with coarse sandpaper to remove the outer crust, as this may stop the product from penetrating.

Preparing the product

  • Shake the REDOX pack and pour the contents into a separate container in order not to contaminate the original pack.

Product application

  • Apply one or two layers of REDOX using a roller or brush, at 1÷2 hour interval.
  • Following the active principle reaction with surface rust, a very hard, clear, dark brownish film will be produced; this means the treatment has gone as far as non-rusty iron.

Finish

  • After a few hours (in hot weather) or a whole day (at colder temperatures), you may overlay, if required, a protective/colour coating.

Warning and informations

Do not use the product on hot summer days: a too fast evaporation of the water content may inhibit the converter chemical activity.

Store away from heat sources.

Any remaining product, after work is completed, is not to be put back into the original pack, to prevent  contamination.

Safety information

Use suitable means to protect your hands, eyes and face.

The product is slightly irritating: please read the safety card.

Preservation
