Waterproofing Treatment for Cotto Tiles

NORDCOTTO ESTERNI is a formulation based on low and high molecular weight oligomers and polymers with functional modification, additives and solvents.

The product once applied to terracotta tiles prevents the absorption of liquids, without affecting to a large extent the initial rate of transpiration.

NORDCOTTO ESTERNI improves the surface appearance giving it a particular wet effect.

Usage field

NORDCOTTO ESTERNI allows to carry out a water-oil repellent waterproofing treatment on cotto tiles for outdoor use.

Due to the nature of the polymers used in the formulation, this is a ultimate and very effective treatment.

The product is available in 1 and 5 liters containers.

Initial Material Moisture Inspection:

  • NORDCOTTO ESTERNI can be applied only to dry surfaces even down deep, in order to allow a perfect polymerization of the substances contained in the product.
  • If possible, when the stone is laid down using cementitious sealants, wait 2 or 3 months, to allow subfloor moisture to escape outward.

Cleaning and Application:

  • After the untreated terracotta tiles washing has been carried out by the applicator, a further washing shall be done by brushing using NORDECAL FORTE.
  • On already treated terracotta tiles proceed with washing using NORSOL and never hesitate to consult with NORD RESINE Technical Department if in doubt as to the appropriateness of the treatment.

NORDCOTTO ESTERNI can be applied 3-4 days after washing, provided that the floor is fully dry, by following these steps:

  1. pour the product a large enough bowl;
  2. dip a medium hair roller into the product and allow to drip a few seconds;
  3. apply NORDCOTTO until is almost completely absorbed into the floor, ensuring to cross the roller back and forth for several times over the same number of tiles at a time;
  4. proceed in exactly the same way for other 2÷3 times and allow at least 24 hours between coats;
  5. it is advisable not to apply more than 4 coats.

The floor can be walked on after 2 days.

It should be borne in mind that the treatment will  achieve full cure in the weeks following the conclusion of treatment.

  • To clean the floor it is recommended to use LILIUM, a specific product that allows the beauty of the floor to remain unchanged over time. Using non-specific detergents, in fact, could damage the treatment.

Warning and informations
  • NORDCOTTO ESTERNI must not be applied at temperatures below +8°C.
  • During the first hours, the treated surface must be protected from rain.
  • Sometimes cotto tiles can be laid directly on bare ground: if this is the case and treatment is on schedule, it should be borne in mind that NORDCOTTO ESTERNI will not be able to prevent bleaching phenomena due to the double action of high rising dump and sulphate salts in solution.
  • It is therefore advisable to carry out preliminary tests before carrying out the full treatment.

Store in a dry place between +4 and +30°C.
