Description

NORDSIL AC is a pure silicone single-component acetic-reticulation sealant, solvent-free, with low modulus of elasticity and high resistance to mould, yellowing, ageing and high and low temperatures (-60°C to +180°C).

NORDSIL AC is easy and clean to apply, and forms a perfectly waterproof seal which is resistant to immersion in water and the weather.

NORDSIL AC is available in 19 colours coordinated with our cement (COLORFILL FLEX 0-8) and epoxy (EPOSEAL W) mortars, as well as a transparent version.

Usage field

NORDSIL AC is suited for sealing non-porous, non-oxidising surfaces such as ceramic, glass and anodized aluminium.

When BETONSEAL PRIMER adhesion agent is used, it can also be used on concrete, wood, painted surfaces and a number of plastics.

NORDSIL AC is used for:

  • sealing between basins, sanitary ware, furnishings and ceramics in bathrooms, showers, kitchens and any area characterised by a high level of humidity and where resistance to detergents and rubbing are required.
  • Sealing glass and windows.
  • Sealing air ducts in A/C plant.
  • Sealing skylights and portholes.
  • Sealing glass greenhouses.
  • Sealing tiled walls and floors, so long as they are not subject to heavy abrasion.
  • Sealing and glueing in general.

Application

NORDSIL AC is a thixotropic sealant, which is easy to extrude and can be applied to both vertical and horizontal surfaces.

 

Step 1: preparing the substrate

  • The substrate must be compact, clean and dry, without loose fragments, and free of dust, oil, fat, wax, rust and old paint.

 

Step 2: delimiting the area of application

  • The initial width of the joint must be estimated so that its maximum movement in continuous service is less than 1/4 of total width (at +20°C);
  • The sealant must adhere only to the sides of the joint, not to its base.
  • The ratio between the width (L) and depth (P) of the joint must be 1 to 2.
  • For precisely profiled borders, we recommend masking the area of application with sticky tape, and removing it immediately after application.

 

Step 3: Applying the seal

  • Cover the borders of the joint with masking tape.

Insert the FILTENE FONDO GIUNTO (F) expanded polyethylene strip into the joint to limit the depth (P) of the seal.

  • If using BETONSEAL PRIMER, apply it with a brush or pad to the affected parts, and leave it to dry (10-15 minutes for the solvent to evaporate) before applying NORDSIL AC.
  • NORDSIL AC is packaged in 290 ml cartridges; cut the nozzle at 45° at the width required for the application, and extrude it to fill the joint, without air bubbles.
  • Smooth off the surface with a damp tool (it is best to use soapy water) before a skin forms.

Remove the masking tape immediately.

Warning and informations
  • Do not use NORDSIL AC for sealing surface which are sensitive to acid, such as chalky stone, mirrors or metals like copper and lead (NORDSIL AC releases a small amount of acetic acid during the reticulation process).
  • Do not apply NORDSIL AC to strongly plastified or bitumen-based rubber or plastic surfaces, from which oils, plastifiers or solvents can migrate and compromise its adhesion, as well as changing its colour and strength as they penetrate it.
  • Do not use NORDSIL AC for sealing aquariums or drinking water pipes.
  • Wear protective gloves when using NORDSIL AC.
  • Do not use in an enclosed area: good ventilation must be provided both while applying the product and while it is reticulating.
  • Do not expose the sealant to thermal, mechanical or chemical stress before it has completely cured.
  • For sealing heavy foot traffic floors, use a polyurethane epoxy sealant such as PU SEAL.
  • NORDSIL AC cannot be painted over: first paint the surface, then seal it.
  • NORDSIL AC reticulates in reaction with atmospheric humidity: low relative  air humidity slows down the reticulation process, whereas temperature has a negligible effect.
Preservation

24 months, in a dry place, +5 to +25°C.

Storing the product at over 25°C for a long time reduces its shelf life.
