Q-PRIMER

Two component, impregnating and consolidating agent in aqueous emulsion

Description

Q-PRIMER is a two component product made of:

  • component A: a mixture of liquid epoxy pre-polymers, additives and emulsifiers;
  • component B: copolymerization amine, additives and emulgators.

This product has a high penetration capability, even on humid or newly cast substrates. After polymerization it provides an excellent reinforcement of cementitious substrates and therefore is considered to be a good base coat for several application cycles.

Usage field

PRIMER-Q can be used as:

1. a consolidation and impregnation agent (dilution: 1.8 parts by weight of product A+B with 4 parts water) for the treatment of:

  • new or old concrete;
  • plasters, also lime based plasters;
  • mortars without cohesion;
  • screed made of sand and cement and calcium sulfate;
  • wood panels.

2. anti-evaporation agent and filler (dilution: 1.8 parts by weight of product A+B with 1.5 parts water) for the treatment of:

  • new (or old) concrete, even if cast from only 12÷24 hours

Both types of applications are to be finished, starting from the day after, by overlaying  Q-PRIMER with  the various finishes belonging to the Q range.

Application

Surface Preparation

The laying substrate must be carefully examined to be sure it is a suitable base for the chosen application cycles.

Depending both on the laying substrate's conditions and the final coating to be realized on Q-PRIMER, the pre-treatment to be performed shall be chosen between the following:

pressure washing with water;

acid wash;

sanding;

diamond grinding;

scarifying;

sand blasting.

In this way all dust, dirt, grease, oil, old adhesive or paint, efflorescence, rust, mildew and other foreign and not cohesive material will be removed.

In case of:

newly cast concrete flooring, after mechanical floating (usually after 12-24 hours from casting), the product shall be applied according to the dilution rate determined by the project;

new quartz industrial concrete, few months after casting, washing shall be carried out with water or diluted STRIPPER (1 part by weight of product and 5 parts water) in case of existing tire tracks;

old surfaces: thoroughly clean with products suited to the elimination of everything that can inhibit the adhesion and penetration of Q-PRIMER (grease, oils, paints, etc.). Normally washing with STRIPPER and mechanical brushing, followed by abundant rinsing and sucking up the washing liquid from the substrate is sufficient;

Substrate Humidity Level

There is not any residual humidity limit constraints on laying down Q-PRIMER.

Product Preparation

Like all epoxy/amine coating products, Q-PRIMER is to be prepared in a mixing container in a certain quantity taking into account the pot life of the product (40 minutes at 23°C).

Mixing

Pour Q-PRIMER component B into component A and mix well with a low speed mixer.

The impeller size must be adapted to the size of the mixing bucket (eg: a 15÷20 litres bucket requires an impeller with a diameter of approx. 12÷15 cm).

Later, dilute the already mixed product (A+B) with water in the following ways:

  • for impregnation and consolidation treatments, dilute 1.8 parts by weight of product A+B with 4 parts of water;
  • as an anti-evaporation agent and filler, dilute 1.8 parts by weight of product A+B with 1.5 parts of water.

Note: Q-PRIMER is also formulated to be used as an anchoring base on concrete surfaces with moisture content between 3 and 4.5%, before applying subsequent solvent-free, liquid, epoxy resins coatings.

Product Application

  • Make sure that the surface temperature is at least +5°C.
  • Apply by roller, spray or applicator in one coat.
  • Only when the application is being carried out on very disrupted screeds or plasters and optimum compressive strength must be achieved and if the fist coat is not sufficient at this end, carry out a second application the next day.

Average Consumption

As an impregnation agent: 50÷100 g/m2 of undiluted product (A+B) per coat.

As an anti-evaporation agent: 110÷140 g/m2 of undiluted product (A+B), per coat.

Warning and informations
  • When 45 minutes have elapsed from the time the two components have been mixed, stop the application because the product is no longer usable.
  • Do not use at temperatures below +5°C.
  • Mix component A and B according to the precise ratio listed on the package; partial use of the package requires the operator to mix the two components inside the containers prior to withdrawing and to weigh carefully the withdrawn quantities according to the weight ratio indicated on the label.
  • The possible deposits presence on the bottom of the bucket simply indicates that the product was not sufficiently mixed.
  • Refer to the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) before use.
Preservation

Comp. A and B: 24 months in original packaging, in a covered, dry place at temperatures between +5°C and +35°C. Frost sensitive.
