Description

DEKOR-SEAL S500 OPACO is one component, hydrophobicizing product based on non-yellowing thermoplastic acrylic resins dissolved in a solvent, with the addition of opacifying compounds.

Applied on concrete or cement mortar, DEKOR-SEAL S500 OPACO manifests characteristics of impregnation, consolidating and forming a dust and transparent matte film tenaciously bound to the substrate and resistant to exposure to weathering (light, UV rays, rain, etc. ...).

This polymeric film protects concrete against various degradation factors, such as:

  • carbonation, preventing carbon dioxide from spreading within the solid matrix;
  • colour fading, preventing the leaching action of rain;
  • corrosion, limiting the penetration of weathering agents (chlorides and sulfates);
  • staining and dirt adhesion, especially fats and oils adhesion;
  • wear and abrasion.

 

When applied at a thickness of less than 200 microns, DEKOR-SEAL S500 OPACO maintains concrete water vapour permeability and preserves the aesthetic characteristics of the surface. A slight toning (light "wet-effect") is obtained if DEKOR-SEAL S500 OPACO is applied on a blasted or scarified concrete. Due to its high-speed drying, treatment with DEKOR-SEAL S500 OPACO becomes rain resistant in only 2 hours after application.

Usage field

DEKOR-SEAL S500 OPACO is used as a protective treatment for both indoor and outdoor concrete floor . It is ideally suited for:

  • external car parks and external large squares;
  • garages and car showrooms;
  • machine shops;
  • warehouses;
  • acid-etched concrete surfaces;
  • concrete surface with aggregates in full view (such as washed gravel, etc. ...).

 Due to its chemical properties, DEKOR-SEAL S500 OPACO can be applied after only 8 hours onto moulded concrete manufactured blocks/surfaces, and after just 14 days of curing on concrete floors.

Application

A) New concrete flooring

the surface must be dry, cohesive and free of loose or friable areas. Make sure, using a sclerometer, that the concrete compression resistance is at least 25 MPa and check by pull-out test that the cohesion force against tearing is at least 1.2 MPa;

  • compensate the deteriorated areas with GROVE COLABILE or GROVE RIPRISTINO according to need;
  • roughen the surface by high pressure water cleaning. On surfaces that are not quartz hardened, this treatment should be performed giving particular attention to the areas where bleeding has occurred (which gives rise to a soft, dusty gloss/patina);
  • any possible residue of cured and non permanent products, is to be removed by washing with STRIPPER and / or an high temperature steam treatment;
  • dust and any scales resulting from joints cutting shall be removed by washing thoroughly with water;
  • excess water shall be completely removed, taking care that not standing water is left behind on the area to be treated;
  • Let it dry for 1 or 2 days and then evenly apply DEKOR-SEAL S500 OPACO with a roller, brush or spray (see below spray-output parameters, preventing accumulation that could alter the surface appearance and product curing.

Application Notes

  • With poorly cohesive substrates, prior to the application of DEKOR-SEAL S500 OPACO, the surface shall be treated with CONSOLID PU (follow the instructions given on the technical data sheet).
  • In the case of very compact concrete, a base coat of DEKOR-SEAL S500 OPACO diluted with 10 to 15% of SOLVENTE PER DEKOR-SEAL S is to be applied.
  • On very porous concrete, to prevent the formation of bubbles, prime with one coat of DEKOR-SEAL S500 OPACO diluted 40-50% SOLVENTE PER DEKOR-SEAL S, and then proceed with the application of DEKOR-SEAL S500 OPACO after about 2 hours.

 

Useful Advices
  • DEKORSEAL S 500 OPACO can be applied with just one coat;
  • If the absorption by the substrate makes it necessary, more coats must be applied at least 2 hours apart (at +20 ° C) from each other;
  • if room and substrate temperature is lower than +10 ° C or higher than +27 ° C, dilute DEKORSEAL S 500 OPACO with 5% SOLVENTE PER DEKOR-SEAL S.

 

B) Old concrete flooring

the surface must be dry, cohesive and free of loose or flaky areas. Use a sclerometer to ensure that the compressive strength is at least 25 MPa and perform a pull-out test to check that the tearing strength is at least 1.2 MPa;

  • all degraded areas shall be compensated with GROVE COLABILE or NORDGROUTH TIXO, according to need;
  • surface existing open pores shall be thoroughly cleaned by high pressure water cleaning or acid wash with NORDECAL FORTE detergent, followed by a thorough rinsing and sucking up the resulting liquid;
  • excess water shall be completely removed, taking care that no standing water is left behind on the area to be treated;
  • Let it dry for 1 or 2 days and then evenly apply DEKORSEAL S 500 OPACO with a roller, brush or spray (see below spray-output parameters, preventing accumulation that could alter the surface appearance and product curing.

Application Notes

On very porous concrete, to prevent the formation of bubbles, prime with a coat of DEKORSEAL S 500 OPACO diluted with 40-50% of SOLVENTE PER DEKOR-SEAL S, then proceed with the application of undiluted DEKOR-SEAL S500 OPACO approx. after 2 hours.

 

C) Old, already treated concrete flooring (with intact and resistant treatment):

  • ensure that the adhesion of the existing treatment is higher than 1.0 MPa. If not, see the next section of this technical data sheet;
  • degrease with STRIPPER (insisting on existing wax layers), rinse and suck up the resulting liquid;
  • excess water shall be completely removed, taking care that not standing water is left behind on the area to be treated;
  • identify an area of about 1 m2 to make a test application DEKOR-SEAL S500 OPACO, allow the product to mature for at least 4 hours, then verify that the application of DEKOR-SEAL S500 OPACO did not alter the old treatment;
  • if not, after 1 ÷ 2 days of drying, apply DEKOR-SEAL S500 OPACO as described in Section A;
  • If the coating has been damaged during testing by DEKOR-SEAL S500 application, follow the instructions given in Section C.

 

D) Old, already treated concrete flooring (with a damaged or not chemically resistant treatment ):

  • where the existing treatment has deteriorated (adhesion less than 1.0 MPa) or is chemically resistant to the application of DEKOR-SEAL S500 OPACO, the complete removal must be done by mechanical methods, such as diamond polishing machine with three heads .

Note: Generally, treatments that do not resist DEKOR-SEAL S500 OPACO are based on water-based, single component acrylic resins;

  • Follow the instructions given in Section A.

 

E) Concrete flooring in Marine Environment or in contact with De-Icing Salts:

  • to impart water repellency to concrete, the surface shall be pre-treated with NORDRY 100 or NORDRY 200 applied in 2 coats wet on wet (max. 1 hour apart from each other);
  • Let it cure for at least 8 hours (at +20 ° C, RH 50%), then proceed with the treatment following the instructions given in Section A.

Methods of application

Roller Application:

short haired roller resistant to organic solvents.

Air Sprayer Application (airbrush):

  • Nozzle diameter: 1.5 ÷2.0 mm
  • Fluid pressure: 1.0 ÷ 2.0 bar
  • Air pressure: 2.0 ÷ 4.0 bar

Airless Sprayer Application :

  • Nozzle diameter: 0.30 ÷ 0.50 mm
  • Output pressure: 80 ÷ 130 bar

When needed dilute with 2 ÷ 5% SOLVENTE PER DEKOR-SEAL S.

 

Maintenance

Ordinary cleaning of surfaces treated with DEKOR-SEAL S500 OPACO:

DEKOR-SEAL S500 OPACO-treated surfaces can be washed with DEKOR-SEAL CLEANER, namely an alcohol-based alkaline detergent diluted with water in a ratio of between 1:5 and 1:20 by volume (1 litre of product for 5 or 20 liters of water ), depending on the type and amount of dirt. A monobrush equipped with a white disc or an industrial floor cleaning machine(also scrubber dryers machines) can be used. Other types of disc can be used, but their effectiveness should be checked first to avoid damaging the coating. Rinsing is not necessary even if it improves the cleaning treatment performance.

To make the DEKOR-SEAL S500 OPACO coating last longer, the surface can be protected with DEKOR-SEAL WAX, a wax in aqueous emulsion with high scratch resistance and gloss effect. A DEKOR-SEAL WAX treatment has the advantage of being easily removable and re-applicable if damaged.


How to protect surfaces treated with DEKOR-SEAL S500 OPACO using DEKOR-SEAL WAX :

prior to the application of DEKOR-SEAL WAX, the surface must be thoroughly cleaned with DEKOR-SEAL CLEANER diluted 1:1 with hot water (1 DEKOR-SEAL CLEANER liter in 1 litre of warm water) with a monobrush equipped with a white disk. Rinse with water (preferably hot water) and allow at least 1 hour drying time, removing any standing water.

Apply DEKOR-SEAL WAX pure or diluted 1:1 by volume with water using a wax applicator. Allow 2÷3 hours for the floor to dry before walking on it.

 

Ordinary cleaning of the surfaces treated with DEKOR-SEAL WAX:

DEKOR-SEAL WAX treated surfaces can be washed with SEAL WAX can be washed with DEKOR-SEAL CLEANER diluted with water in a ratio of between 1:10 and 1:20 by volume (1 litre of product every 5 or 10 litres of water) depending on the type and the amount of dirt. No need to rinse. Both industrial floor cleaning machines and scrubber dryers machines can be used.

 

How to refresh the wax treatment:

the wax layer can be refreshed after ordinary cleaning by re-treating the floor with DEKOR-SEAL WAX diluted 1:10 with water and applying it with a wax-spreader. If the wax layer is deeply damaged, it is necessary instead to completely remove it and re-apply it.

 

How to remove the wax treatment:

DEKOR-SEAL WAX can be removed from the surface by stripping with STRIPPER PLUS diluted between 1:5 and 1:10 in hot water. Pour the stripper onto the surface and spread it evenly.  Rub the floor with a monobrush equipped with a white disk and allow at least 5 minutes for the product action before removing it. Insist, if necessary, over areas where DEKOR-SEAL WAX treatment has been performed several times. Rinse with clean water.

Once dry, the surface can be re-treated and protected with DEKOR-SEAL WAX, following the previously given instructions. Note: Do not use

solvent-based strippers because they can damage the underlying treatment based on DEKOR-SEAL S500 OPACO. In any case, prior to their use, verify eligibility in a limited area of ​​the floor.

Warning and informations
  • The product is ready for use, however, shake the container vigorously before use.
  • All equipment used for the application of the product can be washed with SOLVENTE PER DEKOR-SEAL S or alternatively with SOLVENTE PER NORDPUR, SOLVENTE PER NORDCHLOR or nitro diluent.
  • Before application, the product should be kept at room temperature between +15 ° C and + 27 ° C.
  • Do not apply if rain is imminent or expected.
  • Do not apply when relative humidity is above 85%.
  • The application must be carried out at a temperature at least 3°C higher than dew point and never lower than +5°C.
  • The product is flammable and dangerous to health, refer to the material safety data sheet (MSDS) before use.
  • Keep the product away from heat and direct sunlight, store it in a dry place.
Preservation

24 months in original packaging, in a covered and dry place. At temperatures between +5 ° C to +35 ° C.
