Self-levelling epoxy coating

Description

NORPHEN LEVEL is a liquid bicomponent product made up of:

  • component A: a mix of liquid epoxy prepolymers and special inert material;
  • component B: copolymerization amine.


Once the ingredients are mixed, the resulting product can easily be applied using the self-levelling coating technique.

When fully set, the material forms a smooth coating, impermeable to water and oil, hard and flexible, especially suitable to coat industrial concrete floors wherever there is a requirement for a dust resistant, heavy duty surface that can easily be disinfected.

Usage field

NORPHEN LEVEL is used to make low-medium thickness (1 to 4 mm) coatings, both as a single layer or using the technique of multiple layers with quartz sand dusting on a wet surface, to grant anti-slip properties to floors normally used in the following sectors:

  • meat, fruit and vegetables processing companies, slaughterhouses, dairies, fishmongers, bakers, patisserie shops, etc.;
  • kitchens and canteens in hospitals, restaurants and hotels;
  • cold stores, etc.

Specific preparation

Preparing a brand new concrete surface:

  • the base must be dry, left to set for at least 28 days, and  humidity content  must be max 3% (measured with the carbide method);
  • scarify the surface or alternatively carry out diamond wheel sanding;
  • apply a layer of NORPHEN FONDO SL primer;
  • treat the gaps with NORPHEN PU to make them disappear (if required);
  • proceed to lay NORPHEN LEVEL.

  • apply a layer of NORPHEN SW SOLID primer and proceed to treat the gaps if they are supposed not to be seen;
  • apply W3 (1.5 kg/m2) reinforced with GLASS MESH and wait 48 hours for it to set;
  • lay NORPHEN LEVEL.

 

Preparing an old concrete surface:

scarify or shot blast the surface;

apply a layer of NORPHEN SW SOLID primer and proceed to treat the gaps if they are supposed not to be seen;

apply W3 (1.5 kg/m2) reinforced with GLASS MESH and wait 48 hours for it to set;

Product preparation

Pour NORPHEN LEVEL component B into component A and mix well with a slow speed mechanical mixer to obtain a homogeneous mixture.

Product application

Self-levelling floors:

  • pour NORPHEN LEVEL onto the surface and spread with a smooth steel spatula or a suitable toothed spatula, according to the amount of product you plan to use (see “Yield”);
  • although not strictly required, you may also use a bubble bursting roller.

 

Anti-slip multilayered floors:

  • add to the (A+B) mix 30¸50% in weight quartz sands  (selected particle size), and mix with a trowel each time you are going to pick up the mix;
  • spread the product on the surface with a 48 cm smooth steel spatula and lightly dust the wet surface with selected particle size quartz sand;
  • the day after, get rid of any excess quartz, sand down and remove all dust, then apply a finishing layer of NORPHEN LEVEL with a steel or rubber spatula.

Warning and informations
  • The surfaces to be coated must be equipped with a steam barrier underneath, and their max humidity content cannot exceed 3%, otherwise you must provide a preliminary coating with W3.
  • If you are applying two layers of NORPHEN LEVEL one on top of the other, we advise you against carrying out any smoothing (should the second layer be applied within 48 hours), to prevent unremoved dust particles from producing holes.
  • Mix component A and B in the exact proportions recommended by the manufacturer; if you want to use only part of the pack, weigh out the two ingredients according to the Ratio indicated on the label.
  • During the cold period of the year primer viscosity increases, making application more difficult: take it to a warmer place before applying it. On the other hand, in hot weather conditions the product will harden more quickly.
  • Read the safety card.

 

Preservation

Store indoors at temperatures between +4°C and +30°C.
