Description

STONE LY is a transparent, non-yellowing polyurethane binder with two components:

  • component A:  a mix of functionalised fluid pre-polymers and special additives;
  • component B:  iso-cyanic pre-polymer.

 

STONE LY is the ideal binder for making natural floors of resin and tumbled marble chippings of any colour, including white, which must be non-slip and resistant to the weather and freeze/thaw cycles.

  • outdoors pavement for walkways, avenues and pedestrian areas;
  • prefabricated drainage slabs for outdoors flooring.

Substrates preparation

The surface must be carefully examined to ensure that it is a suitable and structurally sound base.

  • Quartz-based industrial concrete can be covered following shot-peening, and grinding with a diamond wheel or an acid wash.
  • Sand and cement screeds must be properly cured (at least 28 days) with a residual humidity of less than 3%; they must also be resistant to compression of 25-30 MPa: if not, their resistance must be augmented by means of deep impregnation with NORPHEN SW SOLID (diluted as indicated in the product's data sheet), with a consumption of 50 to 100 grams of pure product per cm of thickness.
  • SC 1 ready-to-use screeds may be covered after 8 days (at 20°C and 50% RH).
  • SC 1-F fibrated ready-to-use screeds may be covered after 48 days (at 20°C and 50% RH).
  • Screeds made with SC 1-BASE type binder and miscellaneous sand may be covered after 12¸15 days (at 20°C and 50% RH), once their residual humidity has been measured.
  • Tiled surfaces must be roughened with a diamond cup wheel.
Specific preparation

With substrate humidity of less than 3%:

before proceeding, apply a coat of NORPHEN FONDO SL by hand with a roller, dusted lightly with 0.3-0.9 mm quartz sand, to the amount of around 0.40 kg/m² (A+B).

The next day, sand the surface and remove any loose quartz.

With substrate humidity of 3 to 4.5%:

before proceeding, apply a coat of NORPHEN SW SOLIDO (diluted 30% by weight with water) by hand with a roller, dusted lightly with 0.3-0.9 mm quartz sand, to the amount of around 0.40 kg/m² (A+B).

The next day, sand the surface and remove any loose quartz.

 

Joints:

Pay special attention to the treatment of the joints, as follows:

1) quartz-based industrial floors of up to 15 cm thickness with a single reinforcing mesh and cured for less than 1 year:

  • cut and reseal, leaving exposed;

2) floors as above of thickness greater than 18 cm with two reinforcing meshes or a single mesh and cured for more than 1 year:

  • fill the joint and create a strip of NORPHEN PU elastomer resin, reinforced with a strip of 160 g/m² RETE DI VETRO (glass mesh).
Product conditions of application

Thickness of the covering

For an even finished surface, we recommend calibrating the thickness of the covering in relation to the chip size, as follows:

minimum covering thickness = 2 times the maximum chip size.

We also recommend using profiles (secured to the substrate before the screed is cast) to ensure the covering thickness is even and to keep it within the treatment area.

Product preparation

1) Use a vertical bucket concrete mixer to prepare the mix of chippings and resin.

2) Prepare the required amount of A+B resin in a clean container, following the recommended chipping/binder ratio indicated in the "Consumption" table, as follows:

  • add component B to component A;
  • mix slowly with a low speed professional mixer for around 2 minutes: the two components are not perfectly soluble with each other when first mixed and the mixture will appear cloudy and gelatinous at the start;
  • scrape the walls of the bucket with a clean trowel to facilitate an even mix;
  • continue mixing slowly until the mixture becomes transparent: only now is the mixture ready for the marble chippings.

3) Pour the chippings into the concrete mixer and mix them with the A+B mixture.

Product application

Casting the covering:

  • take the prepared product to the work area;
  • pour it onto the treatment surface using a rake, and adjust its thickness with a straight edge;
  • smooth down and compact the screed with a smoothing trowel (round corners)

For a more  compact, closed finish, saturate the covering with NORDPUR ESTERNI TRASPARENTE the next day

Warning and informations

Do not apply chipping coverings to:

  • wood;
  • linoleum;
  • rubber and substrates with large mobility at the expansion joints.

Read the safety sheet carefully before using the product.

Preservation

12 months in the original packaging in a dry place under cover, +10°C to +30°C.

Do not allow to freeze.
