Description

STRATOFLEX is a two component self-levelling product formed by:

  • component A: mixture of pre-polymer epoxide liquids, pigments, additives and special charges;
  • component B: amine of co-polymerisation.

When it is completely cured the material is very hard and flexible, resistant to mechanical and thermal stress and is specifically designed as a floor covering.

Usage field

As a self-levelling floor covering

STRATOFLEX can be used to create 1 to2 mm thick floors on surfaces used by medium weight trolleys subject to frequent washes, where an anti-slip covering is not necessary, like food or light industry warehouses, paper works, printers etc.;

As a multilayered floor covering

STRATOFLEX is suitable for creating floors with various levels of grip depending on the type of quartz sand used, adaptable for many types of industrial activities e.g. kitchens, restaurants, meat and other food production like cheese, fruit, vegetables, bread, oil, jams etc. and also areas like detergents, textiles, beer, laundries etc

In order to obtain extra chemical resistance it can be reinforced by using NORPHEN 200 HCR or ESTER VE.

Substrates usable:

  • newly cast concrete;
  • old concrete;
  • sand and cement or ready-made screeds and cement based self-levellers;
  • concrete and screeds on heat radiant floors;
  • sheets of anti-slip alluminium
  • wooden panels;
  • natural stone floors*;
  • floors paved in tiles of any type*;
  • resin coverings*

*on condition that a specialist checks its capacity to breaking and pressure resistance depending on the intended use.

Substrates preparation

Preparation of the base to be laid

The substrate must be carefully checked so as to be sure that it is a suitable and structurally healthy base. The traction resistance must not be less than1.5 Mpa, while the pressure resistance must be more than 3,0 Mpa.

Based on the state in which the surface is found a choice must be made about which treatment to effect:

  • pressure wash with water;
  • acid wash;
  • sand-papering;
  • diamond-grinding;
  • abrasion;
  • shot-blasting.

In this way dust, dirt, grease, oil, old glue or varnish, efflorescence, rust, mould, and other foreign material will be removed.

 

Repairs

Troughs and hollows of a depth more than3 mmin the floor to be covered can be filled with a mixture made from 1 part NORPHEN MALTA BASE and 7-8 parts quartz MIX. If the depth is less than3 mma mixture made from 1 part NORPHEN MALTA BASE and 3- 4 parts quartz 0.1-0.3 + 0.3-0.8, or MALTA RAPIDA can be used.

Specific preparation

Humidity in the substrate (measurement made using the carbide method)-priming-

Substrates with ≤ 3 % residual humidity

  •  it is possible to lay the covering without any particular precautions.

Substrates with residual humidity between 3 - 4%:

  • Before laying give a coat of undiluted NORPHEN SW SOLID primer or 2 parts of Q-PRIMER diluted with 1 part water and wait a day before the application.

Substrates with > 4.5 % residual humidity:

  • create a diffusion layer by applying W3 with a minimum utilisation of 2.0 kg/m2 in two or more coats and wait at least 48 - 72 hours to allow the product to harden, or spread Q-CRETE to create a smooth covering, using 2.2 - 2.5 kg/m², depending on the roughness of the surface, dusting “lightly” with quartz sand 0.1-0.5 fresh mix on fresh mix and wait until the next day before proceeding with the application.

 

Consolidation of the substrate

  • If the substrate shows signs of insufficient cohesion it is possible to consolidate it with one (or more) coats of NORPHEN FONDO variable utilisation of between 0.15 to0.30 litresper m² for each coat depending on the specific absorption and if the application has to be done within 1 or 2 hours of the treatment. ALTERNATIVELY, if it is possible to wait at least a day before carrying out the application, use one (or more) coats of Q-PRIMER diluted with 4 parts water, for a utilisation of approx. 0.06÷0.12 kg/m² of product.

Cracks

The treatment described below assumes the dimensional stability of the cracks.

Cracks up to 2 mm wide

Enlarge the crack with an emery wheel to a depth of approx.1 cm;

  • Use compressed air to blow away the dust;
  • Fill the crack with an epoxide filler prepared with NORPHEN FONDO SL to which has been added 3% approx. in weight of SILICE.
  • wait 4-6 hours before proceeding with the STRATOFLEX cast.

Cracks more than 2 mm wide

Using a diamond coated disk make a50 cm long,10 mm large and1 cm deep cut at 90° to the crack and repeat every50 cm;

  • prepare50 cmlong and8 mmdiameter reinforced iron rods with good adherence properties;
  • pour NORPHEN FONDO SL thickened with about 3% of SILICE into the crack;
  • insert the rods into the cuts and remove any excess resin;
  • put filler in the joints as described in the previous paragraph.
  • wait 4-6 hours before proceeding with the STRATOFLEX cast.

 

Section joints

Cement screeds

If the section joint is in correspondence to the threshold of a door or serves to interrupt a form at a corner (an “L” form) of the screed, it is not necessary to raise the joint to the level of the STRATOFLEX floor.

Fill the crack as described at the paragraph “cracks less than2 mmwide”.

Industrial floors in concrete

If the flooring is at least 18 cm thick and reinforced with two arc-welded meshes:

  • remove any sheathing covering the joint;
  • apply a coat of NORPHEN FONDO to the joint with a radiator paint brush (approx. 4 gr/mt of joint for each cm of thickness);
  • seal the joint with NORPHEN FONDO SL thickened with about 3% in weight of SILICE.
  • wait for 4-6 hours before casting STRATOFLEX.

 

If the flooring is less than 15 cm thick and reinforced with only one arc-welded mesh:

  • reinforce the joints as indicated at para. “cracks more than2 mmwide”, but insert the rods to a depth of at least3 cm;
  • seal the joint with NORPHEN FONDO SL thickened with about 3% in weight of SILICE.
  • wait for 4-6 hours before casting STRATOFLEX.

Treatment of expansion joints

  • The expansion joints in the substrate should be raised to the level of the STRATOFLEX floor and can be closed with a medium sealer or with special profiles.
Product preparation

As with all epoxide based coverings, STRATOFLEX should be prepared in a container with a quantity which takes into account the surrounding temperature and the speed with which it will be used.

During the hot summer months it is a good idea to keep the container in a fresh place so as to extend the “pot life” as long as possible.

Weighing

The partial use of the product obliges the operator to carefully weigh the ingredients, mixing comp.A before its use.

Mixing

Pour STRATOFLEX comp.B onto comp. A and mix well using a professional blender at low speed.

The dimensions of the blade must be adapted to the size of the container (e.g. a20 kg. pail needs a blade of approx. 12÷15 cm in diameter).

Product application

Spreading the product- self-levelling floor:

  • After having prepared the mixture, without adding sand, cast the product and adjust the thickness using a notched trowel ;
  • use a bubble eliminating roller to help spread the product;
  • if it is planned, a finishing with NORPHEN 200 HCR, ESTER VE or NORDPUR ESTERNI can be made after 24 hours.
  • After having prepared the mixture, add 50 % in weight of quartz sand 0.3-0.8 or 0.7-1.2, depending on the desired final thickness;
  • use a bubble eliminating roller (if necessary) to help spread the product;
  • dust with quartz sand 0.3-0.8 or 0.7-1.2, until saturation is complete;
  • the day after, remove the excess sand for future use, sand down and aspirate;
  • apply a finishing coat of STRATOFLEX (or NORPHEN 200 HCR, ESTER VE) with a steel or rubber trowel depending on the level of anti-slip required.

Spreading the product- multilayered floor

After having prepared the mixture, add 50 % in weight of quartz sand 0.3-0.8 or 0.7-1.2, depending on the desired final thickness;

  • use a bubble eliminating roller (if necessary) to help spread the product;
  • dust with quartz sand 0.3-0.8 or 0.7-1.2, until saturation is complete;
  • the day after, remove the excess sand for future use, sand down and aspirate;
  • apply a finishing coat of STRATOFLEX (or NORPHEN 200 HCR, ESTER VE) with a steel or rubber trowel depending on the level of anti-slip required.

Average Consumption

Self-levelling floor

  • In order to form a 0.5 mmthick covering it is necessary to apply 1 Kg(A+B) per m2. However, to obtain a smooth and flat surface it is necessary to apply at least 2 kg/ m2.

Multilayered floor

  • With quartz 0.3-0.8 inthe mixture and the dusting, the total utilisation with a steel trowel is 1.7 - 1.8 kg/m2 ; with quartz 0.7-1.2 it is approx. 2.0 - 2.1 kg/m2 .

Preservation

Comp. A and comp. B: 24 months in the original packaging in a covered and dry place, at temperatures between +5°C and +35°C. Protect from frost.
