Water based epoxy coating

Description

SW SMALTO is a water based bicomponent product made up of:

  • component A: a mix of liquid epoxy prepolymers and  additives;
  • component B: copolymerization amine, pigments, additives and water.

SW SMALTO creates a film impermeable to water and oil, but permeable to water vapour, offering excellent adhesion to underlying surfaces and good overall chemical resistance.

SW SMALTO is available in four standard colours: white, grey, red and green.

Usage field

SW SMALTO is mainly used to coat quartz finished industrial concrete floors: in particular, it is highly indicated for stain and dust protection purposes in warehouses, depots, garages, etc.

Test report No. 173969/e issued by EMPA (Zurich) (Federal Laboratory for Materials Testing and Research), attesting the product suitability for tunnel walls lining in the roadwork sector, is available on request.

Application

Carefully examine the surface and make sure it provides a suitable and structurally sound base.

Newly laid floors:

Before applying the product, check out the surface wettability, as it might have been jeopardized by water repellent substances present in surface consolidation and hardening treatments: in this case you must sand down with a honing machine before carrying on.

Old floors:

  • Proceed to wash accurately with STRIPPER diluted in water, then brush with a monobrush machine fitted with proper discs, and finally rinse with abundant water,  aspirating all liquids. You will thus remove dust, dirt and soluble grease. In case of concrete contaminated by oils, old adhesives and paint, efflorescence, rust, mould or other, proceed to sand down as detailed above.

Old floors holes:

  • Any surface depression or irregularity deeper than 5 mm must be evened out with GROVE RAPIDO or RASANTE 2000; lesser ones may be treated with W3.

Old floors with low compression resistance problems accompanied by substantial porosity:

  • They must be consolidated by impregnation with one or more layers of NORPHEN SW SOLID diluted 4 to 7 times in water (dilution to be worked out according to surface absorption properties).
Product preparation

Pour SW SMALTO component A into  component B and mix well using a drill with proper attachment.

Product application
  • You can apply with a roller, brush or sprayer;
  • Adjust viscosity, if necessary, by adding water up to max  10 - 15% in weight;
  • About 24 hours after completing all surface preparations apply SW SMALTO in one or more layers, at one day interval, until you reach the desired thickness

Average Consumption

A 0.15 - 0.20 mm thick coating will require from 0.25 to 0.30 kg/m2 product (A+B), according to surface absorption properties.

Warning and informations
  • You should stop any application 90 minutes after mixing the two components (A and B);
  • Do not use the product at temperatures lower than +10°C.
  • mix components A and B in the exact proportions indicated on the pack;
  • Read the safety card.
Preservation

Store at temperatures between +4 and +30°C.
