BETON CR

Two-Component Epoxy Tile Adhesive

Description

BETON CR is a tile adhesive formulated into two separate components to be mixed immediately before use to obtain an adhesive suitable for bonding tiles of all kinds on every type of surface.

BETON CR outstanding adhesion properties are complemented by the fact that it gives rise to a waterproof adhesive layer. Therefore, BETON CR can be used both as a waterproofing liquid membrane layer and an adhesive at the same time.

BETON CR  is a reactive (R), improved (2) adhesive highly suited for installingtiles outdoors, class R2 according to the standard EN 12004.

Usage field

BETON CR is the most suitable adhesive for tile installations when an extremely high flexibility is required together with a high anchoring capacity.

Types of Substrates

It can be used both as interior and exterior tile adhesive and is compatible with virtually all existing building surfaces, such as:

  • cement-based screeds and plasters;
  • precast and cast-in situ concrete;
  • wood, metal, PVC;
  • plaster, plasterboard, anhydrite;
  • Substrates made of resin or natural stone, etc..;
  • surfaces subjected to vibrations.

Types of tiles:

  • single-and double-fired ceramic tiles;
  • stoneware and clinker tiles;
  • earthen tiles and fibreglass mesh mounted ceramic mosaics;
  • reconstituted stone;
  • natural stone.

Application

Substrate Preparation

  • on all substrates perform a thorough cleaning with the utmost care, eliminating all loose parts, oils, grease, paint and any other thing could prevent a proper adhesion of the adhesive;
  • ensure that substrates do not suffer from rising damp phenomena;
  • reinforce all existing chalking surfaces with NORPHEN SW SOLID appropriately diluted with water;
  • to smooth the interior or exterior surfaces of walls and floors, use GROVE RASANTE anchored to the bottom with GROVE PRIMER.
  • to plaster, plasterboard and anhydrite apply a coat of NORPHEN SW SOLID diluted 4 ÷5-fold with water.

Mixture Preparation

  • pour BETON CR component B into component A ensuring to remove all the hardener (component B) from the pot;
  • mix with a low speed mixer (500÷600 rpm) until the mixture is uniform in colour.

Instant setting. No need to wait, after mixing, before using the glue.

Note: In case of partial use of the package, components should be weighed according to the proper ratio: incorrect mixing ratio, can hinder the product hardening.

How to lay the Mixture

Depending on the type of tile and the type of substrate an appropriate notched trowel shall be chosen.

To be capable of waterproofing the laying surface and bonding at the same time, the adhesive should be spread on the surface in a thin, even layer of glue using the smooth side of the trowel, then pass the trowel over it again using its notched side without uncovering the substrate and proceed with the installation.

It is clear that applying a BETON CR coat with a flat trowel the day prior to bonding, achieving optimum results becomes easier.

It should be borne in mind that BETON CR, as all products made from resin, tends to crystallize at low temperatures, therefore, although hardening can occur even at temperatures lower than the indicated +5°C, the mixture loses workability with decreasing temperature, making the installation very difficult.

Spatula types:

  • generally, for mosaics to be laid on a surface to be waterproofed, the spatula specifically designed for BRIGHT STONE and provided by Nord Resine shall be used;
  • for small and medium sized tiles to be laid down on smooth surfaces, a 4mm notched trowel shall be used;
  • for random surfaces and medium-large sized tiles, a 5mm notched trowel is to be used;
  • spot bonding is recommended for large tile formats to be installed  to walls.

Laying the tiles

  • The material to be laid should not have any existing moisture problems, therefore allow to rest in the ambient air until it is fully dry.
  • On surfaces with high thermal expansion problems, grouting shall be done using elastomeric sealants like NORDSEAL PU LM.
  • For exterior installations it is recommended to completely fill the cavity between the tile and the substrate.
Tool cleaning

Use ACETONE or nitro diluent before hardening.

Avoid getting your hands dirty. Once it has hardened, the product can be removed only by mechanical means.
