MONOTACK FLEX

Mono-Component Tile Adhesive

CE MARK EN 12004 - C2 TE S1

Description

MONOTACK FLEX is a single-component tile adhesive made of cement, quartz sands of selected granulometry, resins and special additives.

This product is easily workable, it has high adhesivity and thixotropy values and excellent open time characteristics, moreover, once fully cured exhibits excellent resistance to freezing; it is ideally suited for the superposition of stoneware, clinker, tiles, etc..

MONOTACK FLEX is specifically designed for adhesive thicknesses up to 5 mm.

MONOTACK FLEX is classified as C2TES1 according to EN 12004 since:

  • it is a cementitious (C), improved (2) adhesive;
  • it has limited slip (T);
  • with extended open time (E);
  • and deformable (S1).

Usage field

MONOTACK FLEX can be used:

  • on indoor walls/ceilings over traditional substrates coated with exterior rendering, painted plaster (once the adhesion of the paint layers is checked);
  • on plasterboard (rigidly supported);
  • on either pre-mixed or traditional screeds and self-levelling screeds;
  • on gypsum, anhydrite and wood screeds, after treating with Ricrete 1C;
  • on exterior walls coated with cementitious rendering or mortar;
  • on either exterior or interior floors and sand and cement screeds that have sufficiently cured (e.g.: 45 days for 6cm thick screeds);
  • radiant floors;
  • old tiling.

MONOTACK FLEX is ideally suited for laying:

  • mono-and double-fired ceramic tiles (any type and shape, up to 15 mm of thickness) both outdoors and indoors;
  • stoneware, clinker and unglazed porcelain tiles;
  • terracotta;
  • mesh backed ceramic and vitreous mosaics;
  • insulating boards (such as expanded polystyrene, expanded polyurethane, stone wool, glass wool) and soundproof panels (Eraclit®, etc…) anchored by points of contact.
  • Do not use on:
  • concrete subject to high shrinkage (such as low thickness industrial floors);
  • substrates with excessive shrinkage-expansion movement (such as wood, metal, etc..) and rubber floorings.

Application

Substrate Preparation

  • perform a thorough cleaning on all substrates with the utmost care, removing all loose parts, oils, grease, paint and any other thing could prevent a proper adhesion of the adhesive;
  • ensure that the substrate does not show any sign of rising damp: otherwise carry out the treatment with Q-PRIMER and Q- RASANTE;
  • reinforce all existing chalking surfaces with NORPHEN SW SOLID appropriately diluted five folds with water;

To smooth the laying surface:

  • to both interior or exterior walls, apply RASANTE 1100 or 1200;
  • on interior floor surfaces use the smoothing compounds LEVEL FINO for thicknesses up to 10 mm and LEVEL HB for thicknesses up to 30 mm; use GROVE MASSETTO on sloping surfaces;
  • on exterior floor surfaces, use RASANTE 2000 2K or, alternatively,  GROVE MASSETTO.

Mixture Preparation

  • pour the water mixture (7.25 litres/bag for GREY and 7.0 litres/bag for WHITE) into an appropriate mixing container and enter the adhesive;
  • mix with a low revolutions mixer (500÷600 rpm) until an homogeneous mixture free of lumps is achieved;
  • at this stage the product is very dense, as if there were no more water: avoid adding water and wait;
  • allow approx. 5 to 7 minutes to rest, the dough must be re-mixed and then is ready to be used for the installation.

Laying the mixture

  • always spread a thin and even layer of adhesive on the substrate using the smooth side of the trowel;
  • apply the desired layer using an notched trowel appropriate to the tile format, as specified in the following section.

Spatula Type

  • mosaic and small tile size: spatula no.4;
  • tile sizes up to 30x30 cm: spatula no.5;
  • large tile sizes (over 30x30 cm): spatula no.6.

Tile Installation

  • During strong summer heat and in case of existing dust in the contact zone (the back side of the tile), moisten the substrate with water.
  • Proceed with the installation of the tiles, making sure to put pressure (even beating with rubber mallet) so as to facilitate the contact with the adhesive and the widest possible wetting.
  • On tiles larger than 25x25 cm apply a double spread coating if heavy loads, water immersion and exterior tile installation are expected.

Checking the Mixture

  • Before installing the tiles ensure that  possible adverse weather and environmental conditions do not cause  any open time reduction; If a superficial film has formed, it must be removed and the adhesive layer shall be renewed  by spreading it again using a notched spatula.
  • Eventually and within 60 minutes, ensure tiles are lined up correctly.
Tool cleaning

Tools can be cleaned with clear water if the product is still fresh; once the product has cured tools must be cleaned mechanically
