PK 170

High Performance Ready to Use
Adhesive Dough for Tile Installation
CE marked according to EN 12004, class D2TE

PK 170 is a mono-component adhesive dough consisting of an aqueous dispersion of acrylic resins, sand of selected granulometry and special additives.

PK 170 is ready to use.

It comes in the form of an easily workable viscous dough with high adhesion and bonding strength properties, particularly extended open time, and no vertical slip

PK 170, upon the completion of cure, that occurs due to the evaporation of the water it contains, provides:

  • good flexibility;
  • considerable bonding strength, even initially, immediately after tile installation;
  • excellent resistance to vibration and deformation of the substrate.

PK 170 is classified according to EN 12004 as class D2TE since it is:

  • an improved adherence (2) dispersion (D) adhesive,
  • slip resistant (T)
  • with extended open time (E).

Usage field

Types of Substrates

PK 170 is used for:

  • bonding, both indoors and outdoors, absorbent tiles and mosaics of ceramic wall and ceiling, to traditional substrates coated with either plaster or painted plaster (provided one of the surfaces is absorbent and after checking the actual adhesion of the paint layer);
  • bonding to plasterboard after treating it with RICRETE 1C;
  • bonding to deformable non-metallic substrates, e.g. wooden surfaces, provided they are water resistant (such as firmly fixed marine plywood);
  • bonding to walls and floors of bathrooms and showers;
  • bonding to interior o exterior flooring and sufficiently cured sand and cement screeds (e.g.: 45 days. for 6 cm thick screeds), radiant floors, old tiling (provided that either one or the other of the two surfaces is absorbing).

Do not use on:

  • concrete cured for less than 6 ÷ 9 months;
  • anhydrite screed without pre-treatment with NORPHEN SW SOLID;
  • walls treated with lime.

Substrates preparation
  • on all substrates perform a thorough cleaning with the utmost care, eliminating all loose parts, oils, grease, paint and any other thing could prevent a proper adhesion of the adhesive;
  • ensure that the substrate does not show any sign of rising damp;
  • if deep chalking has taken place on the surface, proceed with the consolidation with NORPHEN SW SOLID diluted 4÷5 times in water.

To smooth a laying surface:

  • on an interior wall use RASANTE 1200
  • on interior floor surfaces use either LEVEL FINO or LEVEL HB; apply GROVE MASSETTO to sloping surfaces);
  • GROVE MASSETTO is to be used for outdoor floor areas, while for outdoor wall surfaces RASANTE 2000 2K must be chosen.
Product preparation

The product is ready for use.

Product application

Laying the mixture

  • The adhesive should always be spread over the surface in a thin, even layer using the smooth side of the trowel for uniform absorption and, above all, to take full advantage of the product open time;
  • the desired layer shall be applied using a notched trowel to match the size of the tile, as specified here below.

Spatula type

  • For small and medium-format tiles to be laid on smooth surface use a trowel with 4 or 5 mm notches;
  • on slightly irregular surfaces and medium / large format tiles use a trowel with 6 mm notches.

Tile Installation

If the material does not produce dust in the contact area, there is no need to wet it; proceed with the tiles installation, making sure to press them (even using a rubber hammer) in order to facilitate the contact with the adhesive and wetting an area as large as possible.

Checking the Mixture

As you lay down the mix, make sure no film forms on the surface, especially if you are working in a hot and windy weather, in which case the adhesive must be taken off and applied again.

Tool cleaning

Whilestill fresh, PK 170 can be removed from coating using a damp. Tools can be cleaned with water if the product is fresh. If the product has hardened it must be removed mechanically.

Warning and informations
  • If using very dusty tiles, it is advisable to wet them to remove the dust from the surface.
  • Do not apply any adhesive to surfaces that are frozen or are expected to freeze in the next 24 hours.
  • Do not apply the adhesive directly on substrates made of gypsum and anhydrite, but only after treating them with RICRETE 1C.
  • Do not expose any coating bonded with PK 170 to a thorough washing in the first 7÷10 days after laying;
  • Do not use PK 170 to install non-absorbing tiles on non-absorbent screeds.
  • Do not use PK 170 to bond natural stone, especially if it is calcareous and light in colour.

24 months in original packaging, in a covered, dry area at temperatures between +5°C and +30°C. Frost sensitive.
